- Undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota in English and secondary education. Honors Group. Director of the International Study and Travel Center.
- Taught English in Sweden.
- Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul. Two years on the Law Review. Contributing editor of the Law School Newspaper.
- Trained mediator, and in other Alternative Dispute Resolution.
- Adjunct professor at two colleges.
- Author of the children's books A Granny's Heart, 12 Months of Baby Animals, and Night ~ A Counting Backwards Book!
